The mind, and the things that come from it - stress, anger, joy, focus, distraction, peace - feel like internal dials that we don’t have access to.
They turn up or down on a whim.
But when it comes to the mind, the mental lags the physical.
Our day to day mental state is oftentimes a product of the external, things outside of us, not inside.
Physical movement. Sunshine. Slowing our breathing. Doing something hard or uncomfortable, like a workout or cold shower. Eating healthy food. Going to bed early. Reading a book. Getting things out of our head and onto paper.
Our habits and actions lead.
Our mind lags.
So if you want to feel better in your mind, don’t focus on the inside.
Focus on the external inputs that lead to a peaceful mind.
Let your habits and actions lead, and the mind will follow.
If you find value in the things I publish here, it’d mean the world if you’d share it with someone else. It’s the only way this space and community continues to grow.
