When my kids were little, Frozen was on the tv incessantly. Multiple times in a day. Every single day.
I got sick of it. Much the same with Moana. And Belle. And Peppa. And PJ Mask. And the Power Rangers. The list goes on.
I looked forward to a future where I watched something of substance with my kids.
Now my kids watch YouTube incessantly.
I miss Elsa.
The Disney days were so much simpler than the algorithm days.
And so it goes with life. It’s tough to see what we have when we we’re perpetually anchored in the future.
What we have now is what we once dreamed of.
But when we get it, the goalpost simply moves.
It’s our default mode, and serves a good purpose. That hardwired concern for the future surely helps us make better decisions in the present.
We often talk about our future selves as the paradigm to view growth through.
Perhaps it’d be more helpful to use our past selves as the paradigm.
They might just tell us we’re doing great. They might even point to some things in our life that they can only dream of.
The good days are always today if we just tweak the paradigm a bit.
I miss Elsa. But there will also come a time when I miss the YouTube days.
Might as well enjoy them while they’re here.
If you find value in the things I publish here, it’d mean the world if you’d share it with someone else. It’s the only way this space and community continues to grow.
